Nicely detailed characters
The toys themselves have been designed very nicely, so that they look and feel different from each other. It’s not just the difference between Spiderman’s costume and Iron Man’s. It’s also how they move and fight. While Iron Man might fly around the city, Spiderman must jump and shoot webs. These differences help make them feel fresh and unique, instead of the same thing in different skins. Switching to a new character often requires very different game play tactics, which can make each new toy feel very fresh and different.
Customize your own areas
The toy box is one of the best areas of the game, especially considering you only get one premade area in this version. The toybox allows you to customize your own areas, and invent your own world. If you’re the creative type, this one area easily makes up for all the other flaws in the game.
Not as much to do
Disney Infinity 2.0 is supposed to be the sequel to the first game, Disney Infinity. Unfortunately, while the first game had a generous number of different places to go and things to do. In Disney Infinity 2.0, you need to buy a whole bunch of add-ons to make the game feel worthwhile. There’s only one play area, the Avenger’s Playset, and collecting everything costs a lot of money. Compared to Disney Infinity where there where you got a lot more playtime before buying packages, this one is a lot blander for the base price.
Fixed a lot of errors
On the bright side, Disney Infinity 2.0 fixed many of the errors that were not well received in the first version. Instead of a dozen different types of currency to keep track of, upgrades can be purchased through the blue sparks you get from fallen enemies. This streamlines game play and does make it much easier and less frustrating to play. Another pleasant change is that you no longer have to gamble in the hopes of getting the item you want for the toy box. Instead you can purchase items with blue sparks from the shop. There are still some annoyances here, but overall it’s much smoother sailing.
If you’re a Marvel fan, or just want a sandbox style game to play in, this is a worthwhile investment. If not, expect to purchase a lot of addons to make this game fun again, or limit yourself to just 6 hours of entertainment. This game is by no means boring, but it is only marginally better than the first.
Pros:
- Better graphics
- Unique game play with characters
Cons:
- Bland story mode
- Not a lot of content for base price
